Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Forest of monkeys – Midelt – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert
This Fes to Marrakech 3 days desert tours start from Fes in the direction of the desert passing through the chain of the massif of the Middle High Atlas; this territory has an unusual charm and wealth with its diverse fauna and flora making it a desirable tourist destination worth admiring. We will make a stop so that you can take pictures and to admire the landscape, passing by the mountains of the Ifrane National Park which houses the great Cedar Atlas forest in Morocco, where their trees reach a size of 30-35 meters and in some occasions until the 50 meters. One of the inhabitants that make this park so special is the Barbary Atlas Monkey that feeds on leaves and pines.
We will continue our route via the imposing Ziz Valley where you can see landscapes full of palm trees, and discover an immense natural space surrounded by canyons with peculiar reddish sand and the impressive palm trees that extend many kilometres around the valley. We will arrive in Erfoud; known as the city of the fossils, where we will be able to make a visit in the fossils workshops and where you will be able to see how they work; the results of the polished pieces make real wonders such as table tops, fountains, washbasins and precious pendants. We will continue our route toward the desert of Merzouga where we will change the 4×4 for dromedaries that we will ride into the desert with a pleasant stroll of two hours over the dunes until we arrive at the haimas camp in the heart of the desert. There we receive a welcome Berber tea and spend the evening under the blanket of the desert stars. Night in haimas.
Day 2: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Todra Gorge – Boumalne Dades
We will rise early so as not to miss the sunrise over the sea of sand dunes. We then return with the camels to Merzouga where after a shower and a good Moroccan breakfast we will continue our route by 4×4 toward Tinghir; a mountain city located to the east of Morocco and at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. Tinghir is a charming Berber fortified village where their language is Tamazight; we can enjoy the contrast of its palm tree groves and its pink houses. We will continue our route contemplating the contrast of the landscapes until we reach Todra gorge with its precious gorges and contrasts of unique colours; a spectacular place to feel pinched among these rocks and a fabulous experience to admire the 300mt high walls and the crystal clear water of the river. We continue to the Dades Valley where we will have our accommodation.
Day 3: Dades Gorge – Valley of Roses – Ouarzazate – Ait Benhaddou – The pass of Tichka – Marrakech
We cross the Dades Valley and The Valley of Roses situated at the foot of the High Atlas and the second most important crop area and interesting from the point of view of tourism. About 30 km of uninterrupted cultivation of roses with splendid greenery are grown in this valley nestled at the foot of a canyon with its tint of ochre; it offers us a spectacle of absolute beauty and forms one of the most important tourist spots of Morocco. Our route continues until Ouarzazate where we will make a stop to visit the Kasbah of Taourirt declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. It was built in the XVIII century and is an adobe fortress. The Palace has a succession of battlements with an exquisite decoration on the facade, the spacious courtyard leads us to the stairway to access the rooms of the palace, the thickness of the walls are enormous and its great balcony facing to the central courtyard with its large windows and its beautiful grilles together make this a visit for culture lovers. We will continue our route 25 km until our arrival at the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou; another UNESCO site, located on a hill and next to the Ounila River it was the ancient way of the caravans between the Sahara and Marrakesh. This small town with an extraordinary beauty typically consists of overlapping houses and surrounded by a continuous wall, is also very well known for the filming of many famous movies such as: “Lawrence of Arabia”, “the Sheltering Sky” and Babel, among many more. Our trip continues through the pass of Tichka at 2260m of altitude which is the highest drivable mountain pass in North Africa. We will make a few stops where you will have the opportunity to take photos and enjoy the mountains and the spectacular Berber villages that we will find along the route.
